Discrimination based on race was faced by me while studying in Europe when the 9/11 attacks occurred and I faced the unexpected. Being the only Arab on campus really toughened up living for me. Not by my fellow students only, but also from the teachers. I kept thinking why they would generalize the whole Arab nation on a certain act by a group. Luckily the only true friends were the ones who stood by me during the whole perplexity. Everyplace I set foot in I would hear people joke about Islam or the Arab people in general. The computer labs would be filled with people viewing at websites that were made to joke about Arabs and Islam. But the ignorance of the people didn’t stop me from continuing my studies. On the graduation day the U.A.E flag stood up high tall between all the flags on that night.
